Swiss non-custodial Bitcoin service Pocket Bitcoin has disclosed that a data breach exposed more than email addresses and support conversations for 291 customers, with some leaked records directly linking real-world identities to public Bitcoin transaction activity.
The finding expands the scope of the company's initial Aug. 21 disclosure. In an Aug. 31 update, Pocket Bitcoin said correspondence with partner banks contained varying combinations of sensitive data, including:
- Names
- Postal addresses
- Bitcoin addresses used for transactions
- Identity-document copies
- Source-of-funds records
The company said most people in the affected cohort had only some of these fields exposed, rather than the full combination. Pocket Bitcoin noted that this distinction creates a privacy and phishing risk, though it does not necessarily give an attacker complete control over affected accounts.
The breach originated from correspondence between Pocket Bitcoin and its partner banks, according to the company's disclosures. The Aug. 31 update builds on details first shared on Aug. 21, clarifying that the leaked material went beyond basic contact information to include material tying specific individuals to on-chain Bitcoin activity.
